Cubs Set Record, Have No Returning All-Stars
— ESPN Stats & Info (@ESPNStatsInfo) July 6, 2017
After winning the world series can the Cubs be back to sucking already? They ended the longest drought in baseball history but have subsequently set a new record this year. How is it that you have Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, Addison Russel, Jake Arrieta, and Jon Lester not make the All-Star team? If we counted all the Cubs players from last year, you would have to include Fowler and Zobrist making it 7 players total. The Cubs went from 7 All-Stars and a World Series back to zero the following year.
I know the Cubs have had a slow start, but I would have imagined with the fan votes alone that Rizzo and Bryant were making this team without question. So I don’t really blame the players for this situation, but the Cubs may have won my vote of the biggest fair-weather fans in the MLB. Couldn’t they at least get one position player back in the ASG?
Hopefully with the extra time off the Cubs can turn their mediocre start around. They are far too young and talented not to be successful. I also understand in the grand scheme of things a World Series trumps any All-Star appearances, so hopefully, this is a good wake-up call for the team and the Cubs can return to their winning ways.
