How come nobody told me they were making “A League of Their Own” into a TV series and that it would be starring Nick Offerman? How am I only finding out about through Nick’s instagram page?
A League of Their Own is one of those all time classic movies that is universally beloved so at first glance the idea of making into a TV show might seem sacriligious to some. But then you read about what they planning on doing with the series and all of a sudden I’m intrigued and cannot wait for it’s debut.
The series “follows brand-new characters and begins with the formation of the league in 1943 and follows the league and its players as they fight to keep it alive through close games, injuries, sexual awakenings and road trips across a rapidly changing U.S.”
They are taking what made the original League excellent and expanding on it and diving deeper into the racial, sexual and political nature of the times. Sounds like a good idea to me. To top it off it’s been reported the new show’s creators recieved the blessing from Penny Marshall and Geena Davis to pursue this venture.
I’ll admit I’m biased here, I’d watch Nick Offerman eat a sandwhich and I’d probably have a big smile on my face the whole time. If it seems like I’m focusing on the one male in a predominatly female cast, I apologize, but I am. Some of the females in the ensamble cast I recognize by face but not name. For instance Janet from “The Good Place” is part of the cast but I had to look up her name. (D’Arcy Carden BTW)
All that is to say I’m looking forward to this when it comes out some time later this year. In the meanwhile here’s the orginal movie trailer to take you down memory lane.
