Can you imagine losing 10 billion dollars in a week?
That’s what Mark Zuckerberg is rumored to have lost over the Anti Hate Speach ad buy ban of FB by some MAJOR LEAGUE companies
And Facebook as a company is rumored to have lost between 56-60 billion from Zuck’s company at the same time.
If there’s one thing you don’t do is fuck with Zuck’s nut.
CBC: So far, a number of small- and medium-sized business, along with major corporations, including Verizon, Unilever, Starbucks, Best Buy, Coca-Cola, and The North Face, have said they will pull their ads from Facebook for the month of July. Canadian companies Lululemon, MEC and Arc’teryx have also joined the boycott.
Their actions are a response to the StopHateForProfit boycott led by civil rights and advocacy groups, including the Anti-Defamation League and National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People. The groups claim Facebook has not done enough to keep racist, false and dangerous content off its platform and allowed users to call for violence against protesters fighting for racial justice in the wake of the deaths of several Black Americans.
🚨BREAKING NEWS 🚨Many huge businesses are taking part in the Facebook ad boycott due to the platform’s failure to stop the spread of hate. These include Coca-Cola, Starbucks, Ben & Jerry’s, Ford, Honda and Unilever. Let us know your thoughts!#r4today #tuesdayvibes #earlybiz pic.twitter.com/EJQBJEFEjt

Source: Since the launch of the campaign almost 250 companies have committed to pausing their advertising on Facebook, Instagram and in some case on Twitter and other social media platforms. Outdoor clothing firms Patagonia, The North Face and Arc’teryx, outdoor equipment company REI, tech companies Dashlane and Upwork were the first to say they will join the boycott. In the last week, Adidas, Starbucks, Diageo, Vans, Levi’s, Ben & Jerry’s, HP, Magnolia Pictures, Hershey’s, Blue Bottle Coffee, Pfizer, Mozilla, Verizon, Coca-Cola, Honda and Unilever are among the big names to have joined the boycott.
Facebook has faced fierce criticism, externally and internally, in recent months for the misinformation and racist content spread on its platform, and in particular posts from President Donald Trump that have been widely condemned as dangerous or inciting violence. The company’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg has remained firm that Facebook will not regulate online speech. “I just believe strongly that Facebook shouldn’t be the arbiter of truth of everything that people say online,” Zuckerberg said in an interview with Fox News last month. “Private companies probably shouldn’t be, especially these platform companies, shouldn’t be in the position of doing that.” Last Friday, as the ad boycott started to gain momentum, Facebook said that it will flag all “newsworthy” posts from politicians and political groups that break its rules, including those from Trump as well as banning posts that discourage voting with false claims.
To me, the fake news/hate speech epidemic on Facebook and the rest of social media is easy to solve.
- Institute real-world consequences for online actions. If you threaten to kill someone, jail. Hate speech online? Jail. peddle communist propaganda from Russian dictators? Jail. Lie about your poll numbers and spread political disinformation? Jail.
Facebook is too scared of Trump and what a world without Trump would look like to their bottom line. Facebook itself is based on the psychological ability to present your world edited and virtue signaled where no one puts their real-life on Facebook and the president is no different. All your family photo’s where you look happy but really aren’t because all you want o do is leave your drunk husband? Those are lies. No different than Trump lying about how bad your life is going to be if the Democrats get into the White House
I love free speech but not free lies. There’s a difference. I should be able to say ‘this government is fucked and Trudeau is a week leader. It True. What I shouldn’t be allowed to do is suggest someone investigate Trudeau for murder or pedophilia just because I hate the guy with no factual evidence whatsoever. Morons think that’s free speech. It isn’t. It’s just you being a slanderous asshole and hot tip? Making shit up has never qualified as free speech and shouldn’t be allowed from trusted sources like Facebook who 70% of people get their news from Worldwide (which is fucked btw).
Yesterday a few Canadian companies joined the Fuck Facebook fight and Facebook says they are currently trying to come up with a solution.
I would be too. Losing 10 percent of your market value because you’re scared of the president isn’t a super solid business plan.
