I wonder if you can get a refund from the UCP on the “Best Summer Ever” hats? Or at least have grounds to file a complaint for false advertising?
“Today we are truly near the end of this thing,” Premier Jason Kenney told reporters Wednesday May 26th as he laid out the plans for Alberta’s demise and sold it as the “Best Summer Ever.” It put ‘Berta on the path to reopen faster than other Canadian province, even Ontario, despite the fact at the time had a higher case rate than anyone.
“Our public health team, in coming up with this policy framework, very closely assessed it, but they weren’t just looking at first-dose protection,” he said.
They also considered “natural immunity,” he said, present among those who have had COVID. He said the province estimates about 14 per cent of Albertans have some natural immunity.

This morning, Alberta woke up to find themselves under a Public Health State of Emergency. Oh, and vaccine passports are coming too. You know, like the ones he said were not?

As of Monday, there were 18,395 active cases across Alberta, the highest nationwide. By comparison, Ontario, a province with more than three times the population, has one-third the number of active cases.

On Wednesday night, Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health put away the flip flops, packed up the patio furniture and sent the boys of summer packing when she announced along with Jason Kenney that Alberta was essentially fucked.
Dr. Deena Hinshaw also said in a Zoom meeting with Primary Care Network physicians on Monday that she “deeply” regrets her part in contributing to a narrative that “COVID’s over.”
“I feel very responsible for the narrative that has made it more complicated to try to put additional public health measures in place, because whether or not it was my intention, what was heard at the end of July was, ‘COVID’s over. We can walk away and ignore it,'” Alberta Chief Medical Officer of Health Deena Hinshaw
A video of the meeting was posted on YouTube, but they quickly locked it down before assholes like us could rip it to shreds. CBC snagged a clip of her facing a panel of doctors first though. Take a look:
The Most Scientifically Ignorant Summer Ever might not stretch across a mesh-back, but would probably fit on Kenney’s cowboy hat.
