The lying. It needs to stop. It is destroying us.
#TheLOCKERROOM is not a show featuring three recycling experts, but the issue comes up a couple of times a year. It came up this week. I don’t have a Keurig, but I thought the pods were recyclable. They are NOT, unless you live in Quebec or B.C.. I was surprised by this, so I brought it up.

EVERY time we talk about recycling someone will call or text to remind me that we don’t recycle in Edmonton. You pay for it, but most of it just goes to the landfills. I am NOT kidding. Whenever recycling comes up we get reminded of this fact. And I’ll be honest with you, it drives me INSANE, and it has been going on for fucking years. Do not fool yourself if you’re reading this in another province, this happens right across the country; preachy people and their unsolicited advice about how we have to recycle. We are taxed up the ass so they can do it, and it is all for naught.
A couple of Lockerroom listeners took to Twitter to call out local politicians. They say all of us are paying to for recycling services, and a vast majority of the waste just gets driven to the goddam dump. Hit my Twitter to see the exchange.
The solution is to continue taking the actions identified in the waste strategy. It provides a clear path towards 90% waste diversion and we just need to follow through on it. https://t.co/0bsHWmG8DV

If I were Keurig Canada I’d be livid. They just got fined $3 million bucks for misleading consumers about recycling, handed down by the same type of bureaucracy that fined the company in the first place!!!
Most of us have been recycling forever, understandably thinking we are doing our part in trying to save the planet. In Edmonton, over 80% of what we separate into blue bags / bins ends up at the same place the rest of our trash goes. Oh, and did I mention…you pay them to recycle plastic glass and metal, but instead they’ve been recycling the same tired talking points for years.
This is just one of many examples of our leaders dicking us around. Gee, I wonder why nobody has any faith in our public officials.
If you are a politician; Do better. Stop stealing from us. Stop virtue signaling. Stop blowing smoke up our collective asses. And for the love of [insert your favourite omnipotent being here) STOP lying to us. I’m begging you while watching you tear this AMAZING country apart.
I will leave you with this: if we actually did what everyone thought we were doing to help our environment, would we really need another carbon tax?
