There’s nothing I love more right now than the underdog.
In any and every situation where NBA teams vie for superstars, the Toronto Raptors are perpetual outliers, forced to eat from the periphery with short term deals and trades.
That shitty old narrative looks like it’s changing.
Yesterday Giannis Antetokounmpo told a bucks Reporter he’s done talking about signing an extension to stay in Milwaukee which had an Erie Chris Bosh sound to it.
Giannis Antetokounmpo, when asked about his contract, says: “Right now, I am not focused on that. I am just trying to focus on myself.”
He adds that he is leaving those discussions to his agent, Alex Saratsis, and the front office.

This is GREAT news for Raptor/Heat fans as both teams are widely considered front runners to sign Giannis in the offseason.
Yesterday the Raptors released a video from the Raptors draft room in 2013 showing a determined Masai trying to land the Greek Freak at 14 by trading up because he loved Giannis so much.
It was a stroke of PR genius and absolute propaganda meant for a party of 1. Giannis.
Masai Ujiri and Bobby Webster, trying to find a way to draft Giannis Antetokounmpo. It seemingly almost happened. 😳

The Raptors are throwing the subliminal kitchen sink at Giannis for 2022 and if Masai hadn’t personally plucked Giannis out of obscurity in Greece at the tender age of 17, there would be ZERO chance of him coming to Toronto. Masai knew 8 years ago he needed to go further than college hoops and had the foresight to look for talent globally with initiatives like the ‘Giants Of Africa’ which uses basketball as tool to enrich the lives of people in Masai Ujiri’s home country. The Fallout from Masai putting his best foot forward? The relationships he’s curated through the process.
There’s ONE reason the Raptors have next to no salary committed this year and that reason is Giannis. It never gets talked about but Masai and Bobby Webster have been planning this for 7 years and the only thing Masai hasn’t done for the Raptors? Sign a Super Star FA.
After Kawhi took a Cleveland Steamer on the city I try to temper rumours like this. According to NBA insiders Raptors are a heavy favourite to land the best player in the world for one reason and one reason ONLY. Masai Ujiri.
He’s going to fucking LOVE IT here.
It’s going to happen. Book it.
