I never start my introductions as ‘Hi, I’m Mercedes Nicoll, 4x Winter Olympian’, but a lot of people like to introduce me that way. When I introduce myself I’m just; Mercedes.
Why don’t I boast that I’m an Olympian? First off, being an Olympian doesn’t totally define me as a person. Secondly I like to think I’m a humble Canadian. Thirdly I’ve been told that I’m intimidating…
Me… a 5’2” blond girl from Whistler, intimidating?
What I know is that I worked my butt off training for 20 plus years. I qualified and competed for Team Canada at the 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2018 Olympics, and now I get the letters OLY at the end of my name. I guess when you throw the word Olympian around that can deem someone to be intimidating. Don’t get me wrong, I’m proud of my accomplishments, but I don’t want anyone to run away from me!
So here I am, a Whistler girl dropping into the world of podcasts and blogs. I’ve done a lot in my life and so has everyone else, I can’t wait to dig deep and interview people to find out what makes them tick. I’m a retired competitor in snowboard halfpipe and now I want to learn from others.
Are you intimidated?
