Business Insider: Starbucks is installing boxes for safe disposal of syringes in the bathrooms of certain locations, following workers’ reports of discarded needles and sometimes concerning conditions.
The coffee giant is exploring remedies after employees expressed fears about being pricked by uncapped needles and experiencing related health risks. Starbucks is testing solutions, including installing sharps-disposal boxes, using heavier-duty trash bags to prevent needle pokes, and removing trash cans from certain bathrooms.
“These societal issues affect us all and can sometimes place our partners (employees) in scary situations, which is why we have protocols and resources in place to ensure our partners are out of harm’s way,” Starbucks representative Reggie Borges told Business Insider.
As of Wednesday, more than 3,700 people have signed a petition on Coworker.org, calling for Starbucks to place needle-disposal boxes in high-risk bathrooms.
That blood makes me think this is a good idea. It would also be an excellent Idea if Starbucks refused to allow people to shoot drugs in the Starbucks bathroom, but that’s probably tough to track.
Pretty bold shit by Starbucks. It’s probably cheaper and easier to let employees take their chances with Hepatitis and HIV, but Starbucks appears to give a shit about their Barista’s/customers health,
I can’t help but visualize running into Starbucks to grab a coffee and drop a deuce before heading to work, bursting through this door to move my bowels, only to be shocked by this:
That’s when the poop panic sets in. I’d rather come home to someone sleeping in my bed, using my remote and neck massager than walk into a public shitter that looks like this when I’m crowning.
Congrats, Starbucks (I think).
