When death doesn’t make sense, drugs are usually present. That seems to be the case with Taylor Hawkins’s untimely death in Columbia. Taylor stopped talking about his sobriety a couple of years ago and I think we know why. I don’t know much about the medical examiner’s autopsy or how they gather toxicology information in Colombia, but it looks like Taylor had a 10-substance cocktail of shit in his system at the time of his death
A toxicology report for late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins shows the musician had multiple types of substances in his system at the time of death. “The toxicology test on urine from Taylor Hawkins’ body preliminarily found 10 types of substances, including: THC, tricyclic antidepressants, benzodiazepines, and opioids,” the Attorney General’s Office of Colombia shared Saturday in a statement (translated from Spanish) on its Twitter account. “The National Institute of Legal Medicine is continuing medical studies to completely clarify the cause of death for Taylor Hawkins,” continued the statement. The Attorney General’s office will also continue conducting its own investigation. “The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins,” the band shared in a statement on Twitter. “His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever. Our hearts go out to his wife, children and family, and we ask that their privacy be treated with the utmost respect in this unimaginably difficult time.” A rep for Hawkins and Foo Fighters has not commented further. On Friday, an ambulance was dispatched to a hotel in the north of Bogotá in Chapinero, Colombia, to assist a patient — believed to be Hawkins — according to a statement from the city’s health secretary. “The health professional who attended the emergency indicated that they performed the respective resuscitation maneuvers,” the statement said in Spanish. “However, there was no response and the patient was declared deceased.”
Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins last show together. It's fucking wild how quick life, as we know it, can end. pic.twitter.com/xo17Xgz1zh

It’s sad and weird.
Taylor OD’s 20 years ago in London. He was in a coma for two weeks and had to relearn EVERYTHING after that sesh.
He had to relearn how to walk, talk, and play the drums he was so fucked up.
Fast forward 20 years, the substances crept back into Taylor’s life and now he’s dead. It’s a familiar story for a lot of addicts/alcoholics.
After X amount of years they might take a few sleeping pills, snort a little coke, have a few beers, and BOOMSKI, They are back in the saddle.
Taylor knew. He knew he was fucked. He knew he split himself into two different people. He knew the duplicity it created after stumping publicly for sobriety, spending so much time being well.
Maybe it started with sleeping pills/benzo’s, graduating to opioids. Maybe he was given opioids after a legit medical procedure which led to the other shit. Relapse figures into every addicts’ future, sitting there like a big fat fuck waiting for you to take one step off the ledge but feels more like a hug than slow suicide – until it stops working again.
Every pill/drug Talor took was a dose of internal embarrassment/death. He led a sober life and probably knew this one was a lie.
That’s what eventually kills every addict. The duplicity created by the life lie of knowing you’re an addict when you think no one else does. is the ACTUAL cause of death of every addict. The pain of that lie – on top of the reasons they medicate, to begin with – is too much so they over-medicate to escape objective reality. And then they die. Maybe from damage from previous abuse (weak heart). It could have been from the drugs in his system or a fatal combo he knew nothing about or derelict heart issues (he was 50), but the devastation left behind is the real shit.
Dave Grohl knows about it.
Dave loved Taylor. I can’t imagine how fucking DESTROYED he feels today.
RIP. Keep an eye on people you love. My guess? Taylor hid this WELL, but keep an eye on people you love. It’s just a good thing to do.
