I love cannabis trade shows! It gives me a chance to catch up with some friends, puff a few, vape, do some social media, puff a few more, do a few interviews, vape, kiss a few babies, down some gummies, stalk a celebrity, puff a few, you get the idea! It’s a full day!
This year’s line up at O’Cannabiz was interesting, featuring the likes of Montel Williams, Ricki Lake, Krisha Andavolu, Henry Rollins and the Village People! And I am sure there are some folks going “Who?” Millennials today! I have been to the last 3 shows and this year’s show was different as some of the larger LP’s were absent or had a much smaller presence and there were a lot of new faces. Here are some of my take aways from this year’s show!
The Americans are here!
On the main stage at O’Cannabiz, Krishna Andavolu, Abby Epstein and Ricki Lake discuss overcoming stigma and “Weed the People” (@weedthepeoplefilm and #weedthepeoplemovie).
There were a lot of new faces at this year’s O’Cannabiz, with visibly more Americans present, with the Chinese coming in second pushing tech and vape gear. There is a lot of new semi related cannabis business’ crossing over to the cannabis side and the Americans need Canada as a strategic partner for many reasons. Interesting to note the cultural differences, as Americans celebs may not have quite the same impact here, not sure if the Americans know or care? But when you mention names like Gene Simmons or Dan Bilzerian, you would be surprised how many Canadians are aware of the incoming Americans, and not necessarily so favourable.
How to get selfies with celebrities!
Here’s a good tip from my friend Tammi on how to get your pics with. You can either go the “wait in line” route or accidentally “bump” into them in the bathroom when they least expect it! LOL! Thanks, Tammi for the pics! Apparently, all the celebs were really nice in person!
Meet the Grow dude show!
Who brings plants to O’Cannabiz to give them away? This guy! Meet the Grow Show Dude! One thing that remains true about this community is the passion that people have for this plant. When I met Patrick, the first couple of times, I thought he was a narc! LOL! Last 210 Party we finally clicked as we found we had a lot in common! I have nothing but respect for the passion that this guy has, as I look forward to working with him on a few upcoming projects! Coming soon!
Join the Movement! Tip Well, Tip Green!
In my previous working life, I was a bartender, waiter and also worked in banquets, so I know exactly where servers are coming from. They work long shifts and may have to put up with a few assholes during the day. It’s can be a tough job if you’re not a people person. And so, we had the conversation of leaving a nice “green present” (aka Personal Fatty) as a tip? Would you accept it? How would people react? I think as forward-thinking Canadians most would laugh about it! But some would very appreciative as well. Like I have always said, “The best weed is free weed!” Now don’t get me wrong, you can also leave them a nice pre-roll or packaged gummies, or if you roll like the Grow Show Dude, leave them a nice plant!
The Village People!
Wow! Who would have thought? I remember growing up admiring the young Asian construction worker and wanting to be him. Life can be disappointing at times, as I am a blogger for DB! Honestly, this was probably one of the hardest things to film, while vaping and trying not to laugh! Unfortunately, they also did “In the Navy” which has been stuck in my head all week!
