TMZ: Tiger Woods suffered comminuted open fractures in his right leg — meaning the bone was shattered in at least 2 places and broke through the skin — so doctors used a rod to stabilize it, according to Tiger’s medical team.
Dr. Anish Mahajan — Chief Medical Officer at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center — just issued a statement describing Tiger’s injuries in detail … and it sounds bad. Note, he only mentions injuries to ONE of Tiger’s legs, not both.
“Mr. Woods suffered significant orthopedic injuries to his right lower extremity that were treated during emergency surgery by Orthopaedic trauma specialists,” Mahajan says.

There are two conversations news outlets are trying very hard not to have around the latest Tiger Woods accident.
1. Was he ‘affected’ at the time of the crash
2. Are these injuries career ending.
We know Tiger is going to live. That’s the best news. News outlets relived the accident at the scene in LA yesterday and it’s hard to believe he made it out alive. The SUV he was travelling in at a ‘higher rate of speed’ crossed the median, flipped and rolled several times over the span of a few hundred feet. Tiger needed to be removed from the windshield with an axe and has since had multiple rods and screws inserted into his right tibia and fibula along with extreme soft tissue damage.
“No skid marks, no breaking, apparently the first contact was with the center median. From there it crossed into the opposing lane of traffic, hit the curb, hit a tree and there were several rollovers during that process.” LA County Sheriff on #TigerWoods‘ accident. pic.twitter.com/hf2WdJEqaL

While it’s impossibly early to determine if Tiger is ever going to golf competitively again, most orthopaedic surgeons familiar with the description of Tiger’s injuries, are skeptical.. Add in 5 different back surgeries and 5 knee surgeries over the past decade and you get a pretty heavy feeling that this might be the beginning of the end.
Tiger was a walking medical miracle before this crash. According to doctors and medical professionals familiar with the kind of (5) invasive back surgeries Tiger’s had since 2015, he should have retired years ago. But he didn’t. He did the impossible which we’ve come to expect from the 45 year old icon.
New surveillance video shows Tiger driving at a pretty normal rate of speed second before the accident and first responders said he didn’t appear to be under the influence and local police have said they are treating this like an accident, nothing more.
Its Tiger Woods, so there’s an immediate presence of speculation as to the cause of the accident but for now, all signs point to it being just that. An accident. Due to the precedent he’s set in the past, speculation is naturally part of the narrative until we hear otherwise.
That’s why I’m waiting to use words like ‘cursed’ to define the legacy of Tiger Woods but certainly hope he recovers and can live a long happy life regardless.
Law enforcement source tells me that as of right now, there is nothing “salacious” about the Tiger Woods crash. No charges pending. He went off an embankment and rolled and it is currently just an investigation for a bad traffic accident as of *right now*. @FOXLA
