Florida Man is back at it again.
Back in May of this year former jockey Oswald Pereira got into some kind of dispute with his ex-wife. While the exact details of that argument aren’t clear the result of it certainly is. Pereira ended up setting fire to his ex’s house and was seen fleeing the scene “with his pants on fire.” To ramp up the Florida level a few notches more the car he chose to make his 100 mph+ escape in was a modern Dodge Challenger painted to look like the General Lee of Dukes of Hazzard fame.
Tragically, oh so tragically, the video footage picks up the chase after Oswald had ditched the Challenger for a white GMC Yukon. While the Challenger may weigh as much as the moon the Yukon is even more beastly and therefore better for pin-balling the pursuing cops out of the way. In a chase that them Duke boys would surely be proud of, Pereira made it into the adjoining county before ditching the Yukon and finally being brought into custody. He was found hiding in the closet of a mobile home with burns covering 15% of his body. Needless to say, he was taken to hospital for treatment immediately after his arrest.
Luckily for everyone involved Oswald was the only person injured in this bizarre-anywhere-else-but-not-in-Florida series of events. The man famous around his neighbourhood for his “orange go-fast car” was charged with arson, fleeing law enforcement, resisting arrest, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. To be honest, he sounds more like a troubled-but-decent guy rather than an unhinged maniac with a lust for destruction. Here’s hoping he gets the help he needs. Check the video below for footage of him handling that Yukon like a beauty as well as the aftermath of the fire.
