Have you ever had a “near-miss” where you were inches or seconds away from death?
If you answered “Yes,” I’d say, not like this, you haven’t.

Lucky or unlucky? Unlucky is getting pegged by someone opening their car door. Unlucky is that car door sending you careening underneath a cement truck. Lucky is missing the wheel of a 40,000-pound cement truck as it drives over you, coming to a complete stop on top of you with millimeters to spare.
This is a fundamental paradox. On the one hand, this person was hit by two vehicles in less than 3 seconds, and one was a fucking cement truck. By any metric, that’s a bad day.
On the other hand, they are alive, and other than a couple of scrapes, bruises and shorts FULL of shit, they walked away from it.
And it all could have been avoided with a bit of dutch driver training:
Here in Holland you fail your driving test if you open your door with your left hand. You have to learn to do it with your right hand, which then automatically forces you to look over your shoulder and see if there's a bicycle approaching.

The dutch think of everything.
