Not so funny when the whole Russian in the NHL works the other way, huh?
The 25-year-old Russian ice-hockey star Ivan Fedotov has been detained for evasion of mandatory military service in Russia.
According to his lawyer, he has also been hospitalized after being injected with unknown substances by force.

Love the comments here.
NHL fans when Ovechkin shills for Putin: "Leave Ovi alone! No politics in my sports! I love Ovi, I don't care what politics he does!"
NHL fans now: "OMG, I can't believe my team won't get a guy because politics! Why, oh why? Will I ever know the reason?"— Slava Malamud 🇺🇦 (@SlavaMalamud) July 1, 2022
According to reports, Fedotov left Moscow CSKA for the NHL after winning the Gagarin Cup in the NHL this year. He wanted to roll the dice in the NHL, so he signed an entry-level deal with the Flyers 3 days ago.
As he was preparing to Jet to the US, Russian authorities arrested him at a military enlistment office, saying Fedotov “Fell Ill” waiting to enlist, which is bullshit.

His former team, CSKA Moscow, is Putin’s favorite KHL team, and players signing in the NHL right now are embarrassing to Mother Russia. Fedotov was warned not to sign with an NHL team by league officials. He did it anyway, and now he’s being forced into Russia’s keystone cop military and may see action in Ukraine.
His crime? Wanting to play hockey in America.
Here’s the video of his arrest:

According to Ivan’s Lawyer, Ivan was also “Injected” with something, and he’s not feeling well.
Reasonably sure, this qualifies as tyranny; if you love hockey and like to throw the word “tyranny” around on weekends at mandate protests, you softie, you.
Reports from current Russian NHL players are surfacing that some are very nervous they won’t be allowed to return to the NHL in the fall.
Can you imagine an OVI-less NHL? I doubt Putler wants his golden boy fighting in the slop of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, but don’t put it past him to force more critical or neutral Russian NHL players into military service. Putin can do it under the military conscription laws, so why not? If a Russian hockey player refuses, he calls them a draft dodger, they don’t make it to training camp. Simple shit.
Russian NHL stars traveled home; will they all be able to get back? ‘It’s a big unknown’
Some in league circles worry if some Russian players could have trouble returning to North America later this summer.

Guys like OVI or former Russian minister of sport Slava Fetisov are at the heart of Putin’s control of Russia’s professional athletes. Their fielty to him is total and those who aren’t Team Putin are cannon fodder because it embarrasses him.

Keep in mind, this is the same guy who makes his security fish his shit out of the toilet when he goes boom boom.
I wonder who’s next?
Kiril?
Panarin?
Will OVI volunteer to rally the Russians to enlist?
This will be a big story when NHL training camps begin this fall and Russian players mysteriously don’t show up.
And what will OVI say about his boy Putin kidnapping his colleagues/fellow citizens? Probably nothing. That’s where OVI”s courage ends.
Don’t let him back in. The Caps asked Ovi to remove his picture with Putin from his Facebook page, he refused. Fits into Putin’s narrative of Russian superiority and nationalism, the rational behind the Ukrainian invasion. pic.twitter.com/zQnMAFqc2I
