I came across this tweet today from a hockey reporter. The Tweet insinuated her hockey take on Connor Brown staying with the Ottawa Senators is a shrewd move for the organization to make.
Someone took exception to it and sent her a couple of DM’s questioning her hockey knowledge asking for real reporters to do the job. Something EVERY reporter has been told since the fucking start of sports reporting.
Hailey Salvian, the reporter in question interpreted a passionate discourse as ‘You don’t know what you’re talking about because you’re a woman.
I feel this hard this week. Sucks we have to endure this.

(So weird Megan Chayka chimed in…she’s really smart and I assumed she would have read the tweet)
Because I’m me, I read the tweet about 100 times to make sure I didn’t contribute to the issue but Hailey’s tweet is fucking dangerous.
This person isn’t questioning your hockey acumen based on Gender. He’s questioning your reporting skills. Is there another DM where he’s discriminatory? https://t.co/WZWk1C2QxB

Anyone can weaponize a couple of DM’s or texts depending on their skin color, gender, or sexual preference. Optically that’s exactly what this tweet says if you get past her comment and read the messages she posted so I can only assume she willingly misrepresented a critical DM as gender discrimination out of anger.
You know, fake gender discrimination for twitter points.
It’s 2020, we’re fighting the fucking plague, people are dying and we are heading into lockdown. The Right and left hate each other, Black people and women are rightfully fighting for equality, and the world economy is in the shitter.
There are better things to tweet about.
I don’t know what it’s like to be a woman in sports and maybe Hailey misfired because she’s tired of defending her job and sex but gaslighting hatred is a really shitty way to go about it.
Hailey deleted the tweet because she knew it was a red herring.
Just kidding she used the old “I’m too good for this so I deleted the tweet” line but that’s fine. At least there’s some awareness.
Hailey is probably an excellent reporter and a terrific hockey person who is more than qualified to do that job. I agreed with her Connor Brown take and Ian Mendes says she’s very hard working. All good qualities.
I look forward to watching her career take off regardless. Maybe just stop with the fake news about gender discrimination for all the amazing women out there telling their ‘Truth’ to really make a difference.
