Odds to win the Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race: Kyle Busch Has Top Odds to win

Tensions will be high when the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series drivers strap in for 500 miles under the lights around the high-banked half-mile track of Bristol. Kevin Harvick has accumulated the most playoff points with just three races remaining before the playoffs begin, but it’s current point leader, Kyle Busch, at +300 that has the top odds to grab the checkered flag this Saturday.

Bovada has Busch at +300 with the best odds to win, followed by Kyle Larson at +375, Kevin Harvick at +450, Brad Keselowski at +1200, Joey Logano at +1400, Denny Hamlin at +1500, Erik Jones at +1500, Martin Truex Jr. at +1500, Ryan Blaney at +1500 and Clint Bowyer at +1600 to round out the top 10.

Can Busch earn the three-peat at Bristol?

When the schedule comes out every year, there’s one track that Kyle Busch circles on his calendar and that is Bristol. The Nevada native has won 26.9 percent of his starts at ‘Thunder Valley’ for a total of seven victories in 26 attempts, including the last two runnings at this track. Additionally, he has landed inside the top 10 in 15 of his 26 starts.

There have been four other drivers that have won three straight races at Bristol since the first running in 1961. Fred Lorenzen did it between 1963 and 1964, Cale Yarborough then won four in a row from 1976 and 1977, followed by Darrell Waltrip’s dominant stretch of seven consecutive victories at Bristol between 1981 and 1984 and the most recent driver to drive to victory three times in a row at this track was Kyle Busch’s brother, Kurt from 2003-2004.

Busch has six wins this year and did rattle off three straight wins at Texas, Bristol and Richmond in April. He hasn’t won since Pocono three weeks ago, is he due for another trip to victory lane at Bristol? At +300 he’s the man to beat.

Is Jimmie Johnson Poised to get his First Win of the Season?

Over the last decade and a bit, we have associated Jimmie Johnson with winning. However, in 2018 the seven-time champion has finished inside the top five just twice this year and inside the top 10 only seven times through 23 races. The California native is 15th in the standings and has a 92-point lead over 17th-placed Ricky Stenhouse Jr. for the final playoff position.

However, over the last month or so we have seen some life from the No. 48 car. After not leading a single lap through the first 13 races and only two laps led in the first 17 races, Johnson has led 27 laps in the last six races. I know it’s not much, but it’s something. Last week at Michigan, he led his most laps all year with 13.

So why lay money on a struggling driver? Well, Johnson has had success at Bristol through his career, winning the spring race last year and finished third in the race earlier this season. In Addition, Johnson has finished inside the top five a total of five times over the last eight races at ‘Thunder Valley’ and has 19 career top-10 finishes over 33 starts. A win would solidify Johnson’s playoff spot and at +2200 it may be worth the wager for him to return to victory lane.
