Canadian Rock is weird sometimes. Ask a moderate to casual music fan about The Motorleague and it’s possible that you’d be met with, “who?”
Yet, that same person probably knows who Simple Plan is.
Internationally (on the rock side of things) our biggest modern musical success is Three Days Grace. Despite the departure of Adam Gontier after their 2012 album Transit of Venus, the band has gone on to rack up a slew of #1 songs. Enough in fact, to displace Van Halen from being the record holder for most #1’s on US Mainstream Rock. VAN HALEN!!!! That’s nuts!!!
Especially since just last year they released this trainwreck cover of 1-hit wonder Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used to Know”. Seriously, without making any comment on the band, and just looking at this cover objectively, what a steaming pile of hot fucking garbage!
What does that have to do with The Motorleague? I don’t know, but I had to get it off my chest. I guess the point is that we have so many amazing mid-level bands that deserve the kind of recognition that gets reserved for the select few.
Yes, the world knows Nickelback, Theory of a Deadman and Sum 41. But they should also get to know bands like BRKN Love, Royal Tusk and THE MOTORLEAGUE!
