Nine times out of ten, anyone named Darryl will be a stand-up, solid guy. The other one could be a cantankerous prick. Darryl Hurs is most definitely one of the great ones.
His passion, knowledge and dedication to the music industry is unparalleled. I first met Darryl when I worked at The Edge and he came through with some great independent artists. One of the most memorable being the Inner City Surfers . The Surfers are a fun/party band and mandatory listening includes the jam “Booze n’ Doobs“. Mikey Hawdon from the band was on in Episode 40 to talk about his YouTube Series Mikey and his Uke. That series features a star studded cast of punk rockers, all covering essential tunes from the history of Punk Rock. A++
Darryl Hurs is a returning guest to the podcast and it’s interesting to see the contrast between this episode and his appearance in Season 1. In that podcast, we discussed how the music industry was on hold, in THIS episode, we talk about how it’s moving forward, how technology is playing a huge role and if you’re a fan of big arena tours, you may not love everything you hear.
As the CEO of Indie Week, Screen x Screen and CD Baby he’s at the forefront of where things are headed. Few people put in the kind of hours that Darryl does to support the independent music scene in Canada.
