If you watch football, you are well aware of the saying, “Any Given Sunday”. They even made a movie about it, starring this guy you might have heard about, Al Pacino? Cameron Diaz, Jamie Foxx, Dennis Quaid, LL Cool J, and James Woods also featured in this blockbuster (which I haven’t seen yet). The notion is any team can win a game, on any given Sunday, no matter how stacked the odds are against them.
Week 9 in the NFL decided Any Given Sunday would be the theme throughout.
Things started this Thursday, when the New York Jets, led by not Zack Wilson, not Mike White, but 35-year-old Josh Johnson came in and almost pulled off an impossible comeback win against the Indianapolis Colts. They didn’t close the game out, but the fact that it came down to the wire in the 4th quarter should have been a sign of the craziness to come.

J-Lo might have to go back to 2002 and rename her song Joshy From the Block. The former XFL quarterback definitely kicked off a wild weekend in football!
I guess every NFL underdog looked at that game and said, why not us. If you read my post from last week here, you will know that the Denver Broncos traded away long-time superstar Von Miller. So they packed in the season, right? Well, how ’bout them Cowboys! The Broncos went into the 4th quarter of Sunday morning’s game up 19-0 and held a lead of up to 27-0 at one point! Running on the backs of rookie Javonte Williams and veteran Melvin Gordon, the Broncos upset the Dallas Cowboys in spectacular fashion by running for 190 yards en route to a convincing win over a good-looking Cowboys team. Cowboys defensive end, Randy Gregory summed up America’s team and the night they had.

The Tennesse Titans and LA Rams would have something to say about the Cowboys and Broncos out-dueling them this fateful Sunday. We all know the Titans lost MVP candidate, Derrick Henry and some believed the season to be lost because of Henry’s impact on the Titans. This coupled with the fact that the LA Rams just traded for the aforementioned Von Miller; the Rams were seen as a top contender coming out of the NFC. The Titans’ defense was sensational, racking up 5 sacks, 3 of which came from defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons. They also picked off LA quarterback Matthew Stafford twice, one of which got brought back for a touchdown. That wasn’t the worst of the two interceptions as he threw one that had people across the world saying, what were you thinking?
We have seen some absolutely hilarious interceptions this season. Matthew Stafford spinning around and throwing one in an attempt to avoid a safety is right up there. pic.twitter.com/qf2QOiF1mf

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Carson Wentz threw an interception Thursday that was eerily similar to this bone-headed decision from Stafford. I guess when you’re a gunslinger, you can’t be one-upped, so hold my beer, Wentz!
So what could be worse than those two games? I’m glad you asked because this is where things get really weird. Weird like those parties with bowls and keys… The one-win Jacksonville Jaguars decided this would be the week they showed up. Who did they beat? How about AFC powerhouse Buffalo Bills. This slobber-knocker was a contest that included exactly 0 touchdowns, resulting in a 9-6 win for the “Shaguars” in an instant classic battle of samesies name. What would you think if I said Josh Allen was sacked by Josh Allen?
JOSH ALLEN SACKS JOSH ALLEN.@JoshAllen41_

Well, this actually happened as Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen was sacked by his name counterpart, Jaguars defensive end, Josh Allen. Imagine being the announcer and having to think about the words you just spoke live on air. Well, Jags Josh Allen wasn’t done there as he finished the day with 8 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss of yards, 1 forced fumble, and 1 interception of Bills Josh Allen, to go with his sack of Josh Allen. Confused yet? Me too.

JOSH ALLEN INTERCEPTS JOSH ALLEN. 😱😱😱

My favorite part is the interception celebration by pointing to his nameplate, in a cheeky taunt, by claiming the name Josh Allen. This wild day of football is official proof that anything can happen on Any Given Sunday!
