CNN – Chronic traumatic encephalopathy, known as CTE, was found in 99% of deceased NFL players’ brains that were donated to scientific research, according to a study published Tuesday in the medical journal JAMA.
The neurodegenerative brain disease can be found in individuals who have been exposed to repeated head trauma. The disease is pathologically marked by an buildup of abnormal tau protein in the brain that can disable neuropathways and lead to a variety of clinical symptoms. These include memory loss, confusion, impaired judgment, aggression, depression, anxiety, impulse control issues and sometimes suicidal behavior.
“There’s no question that there’s a problem in football. That people who play football are at risk for this disease,” said Dr. Ann McKee, director of Boston University’s CTE Center and co-author of the new study. “And we urgently need to find answers for not just football players, but veterans and other individuals exposed to head trauma.”
Out of 202 deceased former football players total — a combination of high school, college and professional players — CTE was neuropathologically diagnosed in 177, the study said. The disease was identified in 110 out of 111 former NFL players. It was also found in three of the 14 high school players and 48 of the 53 college players.
I’m sure this still makes the NFL Crazy, but it’s a headline that you can’t ignore, and when you read it you look twice because the facts are so overwhelming.
How there can be any denial from anyone CTE negatively impacts the brain and is a direct result of head trauma? How Many more studies do we need?
Ask Former CFL Jeff Orridge who said this when asked about CTE in the CFL and was promptly fired
“Last I heard, it’s still a subject of debate in the medical and scientific community,” Orridge told reporters. “The league’s position is that there is no conclusive evidence at this point. And as I said, we continue to work with them and monitor the progress that they’re making in terms of getting a greater understanding of whether or not there is a linkage.”
Last I heard is a beauty.
“Last I heard you cant get pregnant if you pull out.”
“Last I heard smoking is cool.”
“Last I heard women should be seen and not heard”
There’s a reason Goodell and the NFL Ownership group is cool giving 5 million to each retired player and handing over $1 billion to players and their families whose lives have been destroyed by CTE. There’s a reason Gary Bettman and the NHL go to great lengths to hide from the truth behind the science that confirms repetitive head trauma cause CTE. They know it’s true and it scares the shit out of them.
I’d say 110 out of 111 tests coming back positive is more than a hypothesis or educated guess.
My friend Wade Belak committed suicide directly due to the effects of CTE. He played in the NHL for years as an enforcer. Listen to this Mr. Goodell and Mr. Bettman. It’s Jen Belak, Wades widow talking about her life after losing her husband as a result of repetitive head trauma then tell me CTE is a fucking myth.
