Man do I love the Home Run Derby. The derby is by far the best All-Star event across all of the sports because it’s just a gotdamn electricity factory. We get multiple hours of non-stop moonshots from some of the best home run hitters on the planet.
But the reason you’re here is to see the best highlight of the night, and it didn’t have anything to do with the dozens of All-Stars that were in attendance at Coors Field in Denver. Matt Olson of the Oakland Athletics was at the plate trying in the first round trying to beat Trey Mancini’s score of 24 dingers (he didn’t), and sent a ball to the deep right field bleachers that this fan thought was in catchable range.

My jaw dropped when I saw this on the broadcast. This dude went BALLS TO THE WALL trying to make the play, and instead of coming up with a baseball he wound up going head first over the railing. And that’s not a shallow drop. Buddy goes head over heels right into an eight foot drop. It’s gonna leave a mark no doubt. You just know that this amazing clip is gonna live forever on Twitter as a meme for just about anything and everything.

I wish Chris Berman was still calling the Home Run Derby because I would’ve loved to hear his reaction to seeing this dude plummet into a concussed state. Of course ESPN’s NyQuil-sponsored broadcast duo didn’t have any funny quip about the play, but at least the network got the highlight for us to induct into the fan blooper Hall of Fame. At least he was coherent enough afterwards to live to tell the tale.
you saw the guy topple over the railing trying to catch. Matt Olson home run, right?
