Last season I had the first overall pick in my fantasy football league, and I didn’t even hesitate to select Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey. Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice, well I better just stop playing fantasy football.
Don’t get me wrong when he’s healthy Christian McCaffrey one of the best fucking running backs in the NFL. His versatility in the passing and run game isn’t really matched by anybody. When McCaffery is healthy, he’s a Fantasy machine.

In the first two games of last season he scored 17 fantasy points against the New York Jets. 19 fantasy points against the New Orleans Saints. Three against the Houston Texans, he then missed five games due to injury. McCaffrey returned in Week 9 when the Panthers hosted the New England Patriots and scored 10 fantasy points. He collected 15 points the next week when the Panthers faced the Arizona Cardinals, and 17 points against the Washington football team. Week 12 Christian McCaffrey was injured and he didn’t play the rest of the season.
The Carolina Panthers are a shitty football team, and because of that, Christian McCaffrey should once again be the focal point of the offense unless he’s injured. That’s the fucking issue though, Christian McCaffrey is always injured.
If last season was an one-off, we could just chalk it up to bad luck. However, ever since he signed his massive deal with Carolina, he hasn’t been able to stay on the field.
It’s not going to surprise me when McCaffrey is picked in the top five of most fantasy drafts this year. However take it from somebody who got absolutely fucked over drafting McCaffrey with the first overall pick, there’s other value out there. A different player may not be able to give you the same return as a healthy Christian McCaffrey, but he will give you more security and availability.
To quote the great Bill Belichick, “The best ability is availability”
