MAPLE LEAFS at CAPITALS
SERIES TIED 2-2
7:00 pm (CBC)
The Toronto Maple Leafs are looking to shake off a disappointing Game 4 result, where they fell just short of a victory as the Washington Capitals tied the series 2-2. They head into Washington as they try to take a lead in the series once again.
It’s no doubt that the Leafs didn’t have their best outing considering the results and overall play in the first three games of the series. Although they were able to bounce back in the game, a loss is a loss no matter how you look at it in the playoffs.
Like the Edmonton Oilers who had a bad outing against the San Jose Sharks, the Leafs are looking to have a positive response and get back on track to try and dethrone the Presidents’ Trophy winners. However, the difference between the games was that the Leafs had a response in their loss. They’re looking to carry that momentum that they had in the third period, where they out-shot the Caps 19-3.
In their first playoff appearance since 2012/13, the Leafs are showing a lot of fight and resiliency against the top team in the NHL.
After practice yesterday, Mike Babcock had some great words of wisdom, as he always does to try and motivate his young group:
“These are bonus games,” he said. “You have to earn the right to keep playing. I told the players that this morning. The greatest thing about this league and this time of year, you have to earn the right to keep playing. Everyone else goes home. Why wouldn’t you want to play? There’s nothing greater than doing this. This is the most fun you can have. Dig in.”
It’s safe to say that the Leafs deserve to be in the playoffs after the way this season has played out and the scare that they put on the Capitals.
Even though the pressure seems to be on the Leafs to bounce back and make a statement, the majority of that pressure still rests on the shoulders of the Caps to live up to their expectations after post- season failure, year after year.
“We’re in a great situation,” Babcock said. “This is our opportunity. We earned this opportunity. Let’s make good on this opportunity.”
For the third straight game, the Capitals will be without the service of defenseman Karl Alzner. Alzner has been dealing with an upper-body injury and is a significant loss as he’s been on the top defensive pairing and has been great on the penalty-kill.
I’ll leave you with a stat that was mentioned in Frank Seravalli’s recap of the Canadiens/ Rangers game:
The team that wins Game 5 has gone on to advance 80 per cent of the time where a series was tied 2-2.
Leafs, the time is now.

First off, sorry Peter for adding to your GDR.
Secondly, I may be more rabid right now than Stephen King’s Cujo. I am pretty sure a 44 Magnum couldn’t even crack this engine block. Earlier today I came across a Holtby quote found in this article.
Holtby also dropped this: “We earned our bounces, and they kinda got theirs.”
Pardon my Swahili, BUT FUCK OFF
Let me tell you what you have earned
- You have earned the right to be scared that the 14th place team in the league is playing up to par with the President’s Trophy winner.
- You have earned the right to to have your confidence shattered when you lose on home ice tonight because a quote of this absurdity alone would be enough to motivate a wiener dog to lap a greyhound and snatch that rabbit right off the rail.
- You have earned the right to have your left nut be partially exposed from your cup and have it “flicked” by the puck as it passes through your wickets and into the net.
- You have also earned the right to be chased from the net, once again, you smug prick.
HOLY SHIT I AM RAGING. THE LEAFS GOT THIS.
