Let’s start with this…
Last night, Vlad Jr. went 2/4 with a walk, a double and a homer at triple-A
As of today, the #BlueJays control his 2025 season regardless of when they call him up. Now that Jays have that 7th year of control, his MLB debut becomes a question of oblique rehab/development

April 12th, 2019, the Toronto Blue Jays have now waited out the service time debate and have made it to the 7th year of control on the best prospect in baseball, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Regardless of what side of the service-time fence you sit on, it’s now a non-issue and can no longer be used for argument sake. Junior is back to full strength, he’s ready for the big leagues, and the evidence is loud and clear, his oblique is strong enough to hit baseballs into space.
Ross Atkins was quoted yesterday saying, he will be up “at some point soon” and Charlie Montoyo mentioned Vladdy may need 15 more at-bats down in Buffalo before he is ready. Are those 15 at-bats against AAA pitching over the next 3 days really going to do anything? It’s not going to change a thing, his timing is fine, have you seen the kid hit?
So here’s why I think the Blue Jays dropped the ball on this golden opportunity. Today is the biggest day of the year so far in Toronto sports. The Maple Leafs are battling the Bruins in game 2, the Raptors open up their expected long playoff-run, half of the city is watching Tiger Woods, and both TFC and the Marlies play today too. It’s a jam-packed Saturday, where you could have casually slid in the fact Vladdy was called up. Limit the circus, as there’s already enough of a circus for all the wrong reasons around this team. It sends a message to the team, to the city, and to the baseball world, and instead, he’s going to go 3 for 4 for the Bisons. It’s a joke.
It feels like Ross Atkins didn’t want to call him up out of spite, so the new-age of baseball couldn’t throw eggs at him for making it totally obvious he didn’t call Vladdy up last year because of the 7th year of control. Ross Atkins dropped the ball, there’s no chance in hell Vladdy should be in AAA today and Alen Hanson is getting a look on the Blue Jays. Give your head a shake.
Vladdy Jr is going to be called up in the next few days, and the Blue Jays are going to see a decent spike in attendance and the give a shit level of their fanbase in general. Today should have been the day, and once again, Ross Atkins with a swing and a miss. Good thing the kid can hit.
