Vladimir Guerrero Jr being selected to the Home Run Derby doesn’t make a ton of sense, but personally, and selfishly, I don’t care.
Vladdy Jr has 8 career home runs (lowest ever for a participant), isn’t an all-star and has been struggling a bit lately, however, the MLB has chosen to promote the young stud and opened the door for Vlad to go to Cleveland.
Don’t listen to the takes about how hitting in the derby will hurt Vlad’s second half. Won’t happen. He hits enough balls in the cage and takes enough BP, it won’t affect him in the least. He’s been moved down in the lineup, finally, and will be able to find his groove in the 2nd half. Vlad is starting to make adjustments at the plate and pick his spots to be aggressive, he’s going to break out.
The derby is a perfect chance for Vladdy to be put on the world stage, succeed, and use the night to build a ton of confidence, the 20-year-old doesn’t really need.
it makes a different sound…
it’s not his first rodeo…
His dad put on a show many moons ago in San Fran. Vladdy Jr is going to follow suit, hit a bunch of balls to the moon, and he’s taking home the crown in Cleveland.
