The Cincinnati Bengals will be traveling to Arrowhead Stadium to face the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game. Two-years-ago the Bengals had the number one overall pick after having the worst record in the NFL, now they have a chance to compete for a Super Bowl. Clearly that biggest step they took was drafting Joe Burrow, but when the entire NFL world was screaming at them to take an offensive lineman in the Draft, the Bengals consulted with Burrow, and they drafted his former college teammate Ja’Marr Chase.

That of course now has us looking at some of the other young quarterbacks in the NFL. Zeroing in on the New England Patriots, and their 2021 15th overall pick Mac Jones, what can the Patriots do to help Jones, the same way that the Bengals helped Burrow?
Bill Belichick has never been one to talk to his players about the roster, or get their input on the Draft, however, perhaps it’s time that Belichick gets with the program and recognizes that getting player input goes a long way.
Let me be clear too, I’m not one of those Boston Media pricks that wants to just shit all over Belichick, I’ve been pretty clear that I think he is the greatest coach of all time, and despite the narrative, I believe he’s an outstanding general manager. However, even through some of his actions, Belichick has acknowledged that things don’t work like they used to, and having a chat with Mac Jones about some of the receivers in the Draft or in free agency wouldn’t be that bad of a thing.
As a Patriots fan, I’m confident in Mac Jones as the quarterback of the Patriots, but I don’t think he can do it alone. He’s not Tom Brady that’s going to be able to turn water into wine. Belichick is going to have to equip Mac with the tools to do the job, and teams full of Kendrick Bournes won’t be enough. – That’s also not a knock on Bourne, and he will have a very important spot on the team, but New England needs a true number one receiver.
I think the Patriots need to take the same approach to Mac Jones as the Bengals took with Joe Burrow. The Tennessee Titans are the example that running the football and hard nosed defense isn’t enough to win in the modern NFL. The Patriots need to build a team full of talent around Mac. If they do that, the sky’s the limit to what they can accomplish.
