People who don’t like Ron Maclean have either met him or had very different experiences than me, and anyone else I know has met Ron Maclean.
Every NHL playoff game has resulted in Ron Maclean hate trending over the past six weeks, and it’s starting to get cheesy because some of you are soft AF and live to hate him.
Don Cherry has been gone for two years. Get the fuck over it.
Don’t like Ron’s rants about books, poetry, or movies and how they never tie into what he’s talking about? I laugh and wait for those weird 60-second diatribes on sir Issac Newton’s great grandson’s dog and how it reminds him of Toronto’s first-round exit. He’s been doing that for 35 years, FFS. He lost me in the mid-2000, but it doesn’t offend me personally.
Somehow, redneck hockey Twitter still hates Ron for not saying any of this, choosing to keep his job instead of joining Don on his podcast forever.
NOT ONE of the dill holes who shit post Ron would have done any different.

When Don went off on ‘You people’ coming here for our Canadian “Milk and Honey,” you expected him to kiss 1 million a year goodbye? Fuck that. He took some time, apologized to “You People,” and kept his gig because it was right. And two years later, some of you are so committed to hating Ron that he hate-trends every two days.

When he apologized for Don’s statement, you assumed he was a turncoat; why? Because Ron worked with Don for 30+ years taking bullets every time Don shit on french guys and Europeans? Because attrition matters to you?

You can question those 2-minute hockey heritage seizures he has. You can take issue with his blind support of referees. But you can’t keep hating a guy who chose to do the right thing for himself and his family by not quitting alongside a colleague ‘just because.’
But you do, and you will because it makes you feel cool when you jump in the shallow end of the idiot pool on hockey Twitter with the rest of the ASHL group who had a tryout with a midget AAA team in the late ’80s.
