Okay, I’m trying not to freak out…but I am totally freaking out dude. It’s like whoever runs the NHL YouTube page is living in my brain. I’m a sucker for most things 80s, 90s, and early 2000’s now, I guess…and I am on the record as saying that I have fallen out of love with hockey. It’s lost a lot of its magic for me. While it’s still a great sport, and playoff hockey is absolutely must-see TV, something is missing.
The good folks running the NHL YouTube page are doing their part in helping to remind everyone of some of the finer moments from back in the day. Search for the Retro Recap playlist and you’ll find a collection of moments such as Mario Lemieux’s return to the league in 2000 against the Leafs, The Stars’ franchise first game played in Dallas, or a Martin Brodeur vs. Dominick Hasek 4OT thriller from the 1994 Eastern Conference Playoffs.
Everything in these videos is done perfectly. You get a feel for the broadcast with the intro from the announcers, the graphics and transitions that they use are dripping with nostalgia, and the music is exactly what you would hope for.
I’ve been noticing a trend lately of companies capitalizing on the resurgence in popularity of this style of content, and I can’t wait for next Thursday because apparently they’ve been releasing these things weekly since September.
Stay tuned next Thursday for my ‘NHL Retro Recap’…recap.
