Nashville Predators goalie Pekke Rinne changed the history books last night with a heads up play and a single flick of his wrist.
Rinne became the 12th goaltender in NHL history to score when he converted an empty-netter with 22 seconds left, cementing the Predators’ 5-2 victory over Chicago on Thursday.
He also helped John Hynes get his first win with Nashville as head coach.
Rinne said after the game in an interview,
“I obviously understand that it might be a once in a lifetime thing,” a smiling Rinne said, “so I really enjoyed it. It was an awesome feeling seeing that puck go in.”
Love when a goalie scores!
But wait there is more, we at DeanBlundell.com also love to give you history lessons.
Here are the other times goalies have lit the lamp. I hope I used that term correctly. I’ll ask Shawn later.
