I asked Matthew Barnaby if he’s ever made fun of someone being sexually abused by a family member on the ice and he said ‘are you fucking sick Deano?’
I’m not but one of the kids from Acadia is, and it’s one of the 5000 people where were suspended by Usports for a million games today in the news broken by our @Darenmillard:
If the allegations are true about what started the brawl, I hope the offending player(s) is banned for life from University hockey.

Oh, they’re true David.
Source: A player and his coach say the shaming of a sexual assault survivor is what sparked an intense brawl between the two Nova Scotia university men’s hockey teams during a game in Wolfville, N.S., on Saturday, but the other team disputes this.
Sam Studnicka, a player with St. Francis Xavier University X-Men, and his coach, Brad Peddle, on Monday released statements about the fight with Axemen players from Acadia University.
Studnicka said a comment was made to him by a member of the Axemen during the third period of the game. He said he told Peddle, who addressed it with the on-ice officials and the head coach of Acadia.
Studnicka said he was “completely shocked” when minutes later the opposing player was sent to take a faceoff with him.
The brawl started soon after.
Hockey’s gotta be the worst for insults and tearing people’s ego in two. It’s like a cauldron of hate where usually what happened on the ice, stayed on the ice. We don’t live there anymore but some kids are still assholes who forget surviving sexual assault isn’t a joke.
It’s what you would call a common sense ‘no go zone.’ Calling someone a loser or telling him he’s a pussy or sucks at hockey or his GF is ugly and his parent’s don’t love him, is fine. Reminding a college kid about the time he was sexually assaulted is something someone who’s disconnected from life would say. A Sociopath.
Be nice if the kid who insulted Sam would come forward in the best interest of his team and all hockey players as an example of a sincere apology and the school should remove him from the team. It’s the only way everyone can move on without shuttering the entire team for the remainder of the year which is very much on the table.
Overreacting to other people’s stupidity is easy. It’s fucking hard to move through really gross shit like this in a publically responsible way.
Winning is fun, losing sucks. Sexual Assault survivors live with scars and feeling undervalued because of the trauma they suffered unfairly and will forever. They don’t need to win a hockey game to feel like a winner. Overcoming abuse to live a happy, productive life will be ‘the game’ they play forever.
Maybe let the rink be a place where people like Sam and other survivors don’t have to be reminded of how criminal sexual assault is.
Acadia Athletics sent this to Millard, me and David Amber. They obviously did the right thing and play a little he said/he said but the kid acknowledged it and apologized immediately after the game. SMW’s will want this kid banned for life for a heat of the moment comment and maybe he should be for precedent’s sake. Not for me to decide or pick a side and it’s wasted energy for you to do the same.
I’d like to see it addressed publically by both and used as a tool to teach kids and adults victim shaming those who’ve endured sexual abuse is a fucking tragedy. It rips open the most personal hurt those who haven’t been abused can’t imagine.

Might look like a trite meme but it holds a pile of truth I try to use everyday:
