After blowing a 3-1 lead to the scrappy Denver Nuggets, the Los Angeles Clippers find themselves in the same situation they have found themselves every single year of their existence – on the outside looking in. The Clippers history is an ugly one that traipses between a racist megalomaniacal owner, endless years of futility, and so many near misses it’s almost impossible to recount.
This year’s Clippers team, anchored by last year’s Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard and perennial playoff no-show Paul George, were Vegas favorites to win it all. But in true Clippers fashion, they failed when it mattered most and exposed themselves for the frauds that they are.
I’m a Lakers fan, and admittedly have never liked or rooted for the Clippers, but this particular squad I hated most of all.
Let’s start with Doc Rivers. Oftentimes, teams take on the personality of their coaches, and nowhere is this more true than with Doc Rivers. Dating back to his years with the Orlando Magic and Boston Celtics, Rivers’ teams were the whiniest, bitchiest, angriest teams in the league. The last incarnation of this Clippers squad that featured Blake Griffin, DeAndre Jordan, and Chris Paul were particularly egregious in the complaint department, and like every other Clippers team, fell short of expectations.
But Doc needs a closer examination. Because of his title team in Boston, Rivers is mostly given a pass and considered one of the best coaches in the NBA. Doc has coached in the NBA for 21 years, has almost always made the playoffs, and has a 943-681 record for the regular season. But when it counts most, the playoffs, we start to see the cracks as he’s barely above water with a 91-89 record.
When you dive a little deeper, it gets even worse. Doc has coached six different teams that have blown 3-2 or 3-1 series leads! Six! On top of that, Doc coached teams have lost eight game 7’s, the most in NBA history. The next closest coach has five game 7 losses.
Maybe it’s bad luck, due to injuries, the bubble was too hard. None of that matters. When it comes to making adjustments and stepping on the throats of an opponent, Doc has been a deer in headlights, every single time, except when he had an absolute killer on his team in Kevin Garnett.
The self-proclaimed Playoff P may be the biggest fraud of all. The saddest part for the Clippers is that they traded away their entire future for him. The Clippers are paying him $35 million next year and he has a player option for almost $38 million the year after. That’s for a guy who has never been on a final’s team and has never come through in the clutch. In last night’s choke job, George shot 4-16 from the field, 2-11 from three, was clanging wide open threes off the side of the backboard and wound up with 10 points in a win or go home game 7. Last year, he lost in the first round with a stacked OKC team. The year before he put up five points in the deciding game against Utah and sent home. The year before, he shot 5-21 in game 4 against Cleveland and was swept out of the playoffs. Who is Playoff P? A fraud.
For a guy who averaged six points a game in the playoffs, he sure talks a lot of shit. But it’s not just the shit-talking with Beverley that’s irksome, it’s the dirty playing. Did anyone notice one of the final plays of last night’s game where Beverley hacked Jamal Murray and nearly tore his knee in half even though the game was already over? That’s not a fluke, with Beverley, it’s a trend. Beverley is responsible for tearing Russell Westbrook’s meniscus. He broke Dennis Smith Jr.’s tooth with his elbow. He choked Mike Conley. He’s been fined by the NBA for yelling at refs, for flopping, for throwing a ball in the stands, and it goes on and on. Has Pat Bev ever won anything? Nope. But he has been part of epic playoff collapses in both Houston and LA. So he’s a winner at losing badly.
Give me a fucking break. After the game last night Lou Williams complained about not being able to see his kids for such a long time in the bubble. Now, I can’t imagine how hard that must have been for Lou as he unironically forgot about being quarantined after leaving the bubble to go to a strip club. It must be so hard for Lou.
Remember when people said he was better than Lebron? Remember when people said Leonard and George were the next Jordan and Pippen? Remember when Leonard took every other game off because of his bullshit load management? Remember when Kawhi bailed on defending his title in Toronto after the Raptors bent over backwards to accommodate his bullshit load management? Remember when Kawhi bailed on Popovich and the Spurs for no reason and after they bent over backwards for his bullshit load management? Give me a fucking break. If you don’t have the guts to defend your own title because you and Uncle Dennis wanted to manipulate free agency and collude to get Playoff Fraud Paul onto the team with you, then you deserve to lose in epic fashion. I hope you never win anything again after throwing away a back-to-back title window in one of the best cities in the world.
You’re all frauds and hopefully Balmer decides to move you to Seattle. Good riddance.
