At first glance the average fan might look at this card and think, why? And I get it. It has no real star, no Ronda Rousey, or Conor McGregor, but this a damn good card. Let me tell you why you should watch UFC 215.
This card is filled with finishers. Whether it’s by knock out, or submission, five-of-ten fighters have a finish percentage of 70% or better. Including Tyson Pedro, who’s 6-0 and has finished every opponent to step inside the octagon with him.
Jeremy Stephens is known for his brawling. He’s knocked out 68% of his opponents, and rarely goes to decision. Finally the Women’s Bantamweight Champion, Amanda Nunes is worth the watch alone. She’s knocked out 10-of-14 opponents, including Ronda Rousey.
The night will kick-off with a banger, as Jeremy Stephens takes on veteran Gilbert Melendez. Both men, not afraid to lay it on the line. Stephens, known for his knock out power has put 16-of-25 opponents to sleep. While Melendez has knocked out a quite respectable 11-of-22.
Then you have Ilir Latifi fighting Tyson Pedro. Latifi is always looking for the finish. He has a knock out percentage of 41%, and a submission percentage of 31%. But he’s taking on undefeated fighter, Tyson Pedro. Pedro has finished every one of his opponents, including four submissions and two knock outs.
Up next is Henry Cejudo facing Wilson Reis. This may be the most boring fight on the card. Cejudo is an Olympic wrestler, and has a tendency to go to decision. In fact he’s done so in 60% of his fights. Reis is 22-7, but also a ground fighter.
He has zero knock outs, and is known for his submissions. Unless you’re a wrestling fan, which I’m not sure anyone is, than you may want to get a fresh beer or piss during this fight. Because it’s going to be a snooze fest.
The co-main event has Neil Magny taking on Rafael Dos Anjos. Although both men have a decision percentage of 50%, this will be a great fight. Dos Anjos is a former World Champion, and Magny is on the rise.
I’ll be most interested to see how Dos Anjos performs. Since USADA has come in with their strict drug tests, Rafael hasn’t look the same. Which has lead many, including myself to believe he was on the Brazilian “supplements”
Finally the night will end with the baddest woman on the planet, Amanda Nunes taking on Valentina Shevchenko. Try saying that last name twice. I could barely spell it, while reading it off of the UFC website. Nunes has deadly hands.
She’s knocked out 71% of her opponents, including a demolition of Ronda Rousey. She hit Ronda so hard that Rousey pretty much retired from MMA, and made an appearance in the WWE. So basically she forced the greatest women’s fighter of all-time to consider fake fighting in professional wrestling.
Give It a Chance
So give it a chance. You won’t be disappointed. If you’re an average, go out to Buffalo Wild Wing, grab a few beers, and enjoy a night of great fights. If it doesn’t live up to the hype that I’ve said, continue to drink, and harass me on Twitter: Don Schram.
