The Retrograde Podcast – Street Fighter 2
That’s right, Mikey and Andrew are Back with Another One of Those Balrog’n Beats!
We also take some time to discuss the new Spider-Man game, hype up NBA 2K19, and even perform a draft of our favourite Street Fighter characters!
It’s Street Fighter 2 this week on The Retrograde!
Question: What would you do if your son was at home, crying all alone on the bedroom floor?
Personally, I’d become a Street Fighter. Or sleep with a man for a little bit of money.
Potentially a healthy dollop of both for good measure.
And if I had some extra money leftover? I’d give that money to my son in hopes that he would venture off to the nearest arcade to put his skills to the test in an attempt to live up to his father.
Arcades, after all, are segmented into two discourses:
One segment is for those who Play games alone while trying to amass a high score worth y of etching your initials among the pantheon of past players,
The other? Those brave enough to slap down a quarter to secure your place as the challenger of a peer who is attempting to retain his position as the biggest badass of them all.
Simply put: Arcades are full of nerds.
But the coolest of those freaking nerds dared to venture out of their socially awkward shells and put their skills on the line in a one on one duel.
Aside from your quarter, it was glory on the line in the face of embarrassment.
For many kids, this was their first attempt at publicly putting their reputation on the line. But instead of duking it out in the streets, these wars were waged in the arcades.
Was it worth all the stress?
Was one of the original, most notorious games which put two people toe to toe actually a piece de resistance, or should it be left to collect dust in the dark corners of your childhood arcade?
