Back when Jim Egan started his campaign for sexual equality there were no fancy words for how you felt or who you loved. It was considered culturally deviant to love someone of the same sex. Especially men. It was seen as a sickness and illegal according to the biblically inspired laws of the day.
Fuck that. Jim Egan wrote letters and articles published all over the world and proudly attached his name to them. He lived through death threats and exclusion willingly because he knew who he loved and knew there should be no other side to it.
Jim Egan was not unlike soldiers we celebrate for making unthinkable sacrifices in the face fear.
I love that Canada had the stones to put this together and hold it up as part of our brilliant history.
Jim Egan. Canadian Badass.
